7.2.5   Calibrate/Import maps

When you calibrate a bitmap you are really positioning it on the earth’s surface. To be able to do this we have to know the exact coordinates of at least 2 or 3 points on the map. This will allow Land/Air to couple and join together the information given by bitmap map together with the system of coordinates in use.

All maps to be used by Land/Air should be calibrated in a way that the necessary adjustments can be achieved and so that equivalences with the greatest precision possible can be made between the software’s data, the GPS’ data and the map in view.

Depending on how you obtained a map, you will have to face different types of calibration needs:

Maps downloaded from the Internet via Land/Air (Orthomap and Mr.Sid formats) are already calibrated.

Maps that you have scanned (images of maps) will have to be calibrated using the function Calibrate a bitmap. Read chapter ‘Calibrate a bitmap’.

If errors, like discrepancies between waypoints or tracks and the information on the map, appear you will probably have to Revise the calibration of your map. Read chapter ‘Revise calibration’.

Maps made by other manufacturers often lack vital information necessary for a correct calibration. In these cases you will have to use the option Import maps. Read chapter ‘Import maps’.
